Chiropractic literally means “treatment by hand”. The first adjustment was performed in 1893 by DD Palmer, a healer who was born in Port Perry, Ontario. He noticed a deaf man named Harvey Lillard had a vertebrae shifted out of place in his neck. DD Palmer proceeded to move that bone with a high velocity, low amplitude thrust, and Harvey Lillard’s hearing was restored! It then occurred to DD Palmer that there is a connection between the spine and other organs of the body.

Today, there is a tremendous amount of research on the safety and efficacy of chiropractic, and how it can improve every aspect of one’s health by improving the way the brain and spine function.

Chiropractic is based on the philosophy and understanding that the body has innate healing potential. Our nervous system is the information highway for this innate intelligence to guide all our vital processes. Any interference in this energetic flow moves us away from optimal health and pulls us towards disease. A vertebral “subluxation” is the most common cause of this interference. A subluxation is the loss of proper movement and alignment of a vertebral joint, resulting in inflammation, abnormal nerve irritation and reduced nerve flow. Subluxations result from physical, chemical and emotional stresses, leading to nervous system dysfunction.

Chiropractors are neuromusculoskeletal specialists that are specially trained to detect and remove subluxations by way of an “adjustment”, thereby restoring healing processes. These adjustments can be done by hand or an instrument, gently and safely. The result is a reduction in local pain, reduced inflammation throughout the body, decreased stress hormones and increased health and well-being overall!

As Directors of Health, our chiropractors are your first point of contact in our clinics. They will advise you on the best approach to achieve your health goals.

They will conduct comprehensive examination, diagnosis and treatment that is customized to meet your health goals.

Physiotherapy is treatment designed to improve and restore function and mobility of the body. After an in-depth examination. our physiotherapists will use a combination of hands-on manual therapy and modalities such as ultrasound, LASER and shockwave therapy to reduce inflammation and pain and promote healing. Our team will then provide a customized rehab program to help our patients recover from conditions arising from poor posture, trauma, repetitive strain, or for pre-operative and post-operative care.

Low Intensity Light Therapy (LASER) stimulates the area of injury at a cellular level. Infrared and visible light is emitted into an area of injury creating chemical reactions that lead to rapid cellular regeneration. This speeds up your natural healing process and allows for a faster return to normal function. LASER therapy does not produce any heat and is painless. It is safe in almost all cases.

We are proud of our Physio and Rehab facility. We have dedicated Physiotherapy bays, the latest in technology and therapies, an active rehab gym area, computerized spinal decompression therapy and much more! We specialize in motor vehicle accident and WSIB cases and accept all insurance carriers.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy works by introducing thousands of quick mechanical impulses into an injured
and painful area. This triggers an inflammatory response and initiates the body’s natural healing
ability. More than 80% of patients treated report a reduction in pain and an ability to quickly return
to their activities of daily living. Many chronic conditions that have failed to respond to other treatments respond to shockwave treatment.

Common conditions successfully treated by shockwave therapy include:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Heel Spurs
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Shin splints
  • Bursitis
  • Tennis elbow and Golfer’s elbow
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Athletic Injuries
  • Hip Pain
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Upper and lower back pain

Spinal Decompression Therapy

We offer State of the Art Computerized Spinal Decompression Therapy. As an alternative to surgery, spinal decompression
was originally developed to treat low back pain and sciatica caused by bulging or herniated discs. Through technological advancement, spinal decompression can now be successfully used for treatment of both neck pain and back pain.

Spinal decompression uses computerized technology to apply specific forces and distraction on the spine to relieve nerve compression and joint irritation. During the treatment, the patient is comfortably positioned so that the spine can be gently stretched. The special table has sensors that can detect muscle tension along the spine. It dynamically adapts based on the amount of muscle tension detected, ensuring the patient remains comfortable. This technique is effective at relieving pain and promoting healing.

Research has shown spinal decompression to be 80% successful in treating disc injuries and avoiding unwanted surgeries. It has also proven to be valuable in reducing chronic neck and back pain, sciatica, arm and leg numbness, headaches and a variety of other conditions.

Naturopathic Medicine

The naturopathic philosophy contends that a patient’s overall well-being depends on the totality of your different needs – not only physical, but also social and psychological. Naturopathic physicians call this philosophy a holistic approach. Whether you have a specific health concern or not, naturopathic medicine can optimize your well-being and help prevent chronic diseases.

Naturopathic treatments often include one or more of the following:

The use of acupuncture (with needles), diet and traditional botanical formulas comes from an Eastern philosophical and medical perspective for the treatment of diverse conditions. The goal of treatment is to harmonize, or "correct," patterns and imbalances that express certain symptoms.

Clinical nutrition involves dietary assessment, counselling and supplementation for health promotion, treatment and prevention of acute and chronic disease.

Botanical medicine is the use of herbal preparations such as teas, tinctures, standardized capsules, infusions, salves and ointments, as single herbs or in combination, to promote healing and well-being.

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that uses minute doses of plant, animal and mineral substances according to the Law of Similars, as first described by Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathy is an especially safe and effective treatment option for pregnant women and children.

Hydrotherapy is the application of hot and cold water to affect the inherent physiological processes of the body. Hydrotherapy works by stimulating circulation and improving the immune response.

Lifestyle Modification involves the application of programs to modify unhealthy habits/behaviours, emphasizing self-responsibility for one's health.

Bowen therapy is a non-invasive, gentle form of manual therapy that acts upon the fascia and nervous system to provide relief from musculoskeletal and neurological pain.

Mindfulness Meditation is the awareness of our habits of thinking and reacting, with the eventual goal of making wholesome changes toward a less stressful life. It is taught by means of guided meditation exercises, silent meditation periods, discussion, etc.

DNA Testing

The DNA Testing Centres of Canada are leading the way in the science of analyzing and monitoring an individual’s genetic makeup. These advances in genetic studies now allow you to get your DNA tested, in order to determine if you are prone to developing certain diseases such as Alzheimer’s, diabetes (type 1 & 2), heart disease, or breast cancer. As a result of this knowledge, customized nutritional and lifestyle strategies can be created and implemented to take appropriate preventative measures. If executed early enough, you can work towards prevention of a disease.

Our knowledge of how your DNA predisposes you to disease is constantly increasing and becoming more accurate as this science evolves. Most current advice (i.e. from health care professionals, magazine articles, research studies etc.) is based on what is good for the general population and may not take into account your specific needs. Since everyone’s DNA is different, a customized action plan based on your DNA could make a world of difference for you and your family.

There are two essential components to the DNA Enhancement Program:

  • Taking a history questionnaire, and
  • Submitting a DNA sample which our lab technicians will collect.

(Note that there are no needles involved, and no blood samples are taken.)

The DNA samples are then sent to a laboratory for processing. From the information that is gathered your health is evaluated in processes that affect your diet and lifestyle choices.

Utilizing patented technology these two important pieces of information are then combined to generate your confidential, personalized DNA “Enhancement Action Plan” that is in a form of a written report. With the latest advances in genetics research now available to the consumer, you have the power to take charge of your health with personalized recommendations and guidelines developed just for you.

Over 100 DNA Health Conditions, Diseases & Traits

We give you a view into your DNA, revealing your genetic predisposition for 26 health conditions. This level of personalization may help you take action to detect health conditions early, reduce their effects or aid you in preventing them. We check for diseases such as:

  • Alzheimer’s disease • Asthma • Breast cancer • Colorectal cancer
  • Cystic Fibrosis • Diabetes • Hypertension • Leukemia • Lung cancer

Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the philosophy that the universe and the body are opposing forces. The constant flow of energy keeps them balanced. When the flow of energy is blocked, illness will occur.
Acupuncture is a way of balancing the body. It uses thin needles placed at specific points in the body. When these specific points are stimulated, your body’s function improves and begins a self-healing process.
